Mouthgasms x 3
So this weekend has been a terrible weekend for my wallet, amazing for my taste buds, but terrible for my stomach. My old roommate came down for the weekend and we all went to picked him up from Champaign and naturally with my Chipotle addiction I had to stop there. It didn't just stop there, we continued our journey in Champaign and stopped at Coldstone, which is only the best ice cream place, outside of Cookie Dough Creations in Naperthrill. We stopped there and I got to have my cake batter ice cream. Unfortunately I was late in noticing later that they have cookie batter ice cream and I am going have to make sure I try that next time. I cannot think of any greater Chinese buffet than that of QQ Buffet in Mattoon, notice I said the one in Mattoon, NOT Charleston. For those of you that don't know, the one in Mattoon and is twice the size of the one in Charleston. I actually cannot fit all of my favorite foods on one plate there. Anyways, on Saturday we all went there and it was amazing. I basically hit up all three of my favorite food places in the Charleston area all in one weekend and I pissed away tons of money too. Oh and on a side note we did do a traditional late night Taco Bell run which is standard.

Sometimes I Wish...
That there was this magical way that you could know that a class was cancelled before going allllllllll the way over to the building in the cold. I have not had this happen to me in almost two years that I can at least remember. Don't get me wrong, I love when teachers cancel class. However, sometimes I wish i could have known about it before getting up early showering, getting ready and walking all the way to class just to find a little note on the door saying class is cancelled.
This is particularly annoying when you live all the way on the south quad and have to walk to Old Main in the north quad at 7:45 in the morning for math, yeah that happened, and my next class was not until 2. Today was different because I live in stevenson and i just walked to coleman...but i was still kind of mad because i could have still been in my bed right now because my next class is not till 11. I know some teachers may send out an email or a message on webct. But lets be honest, most teachers don't and most students don't have time to be checking stuff like that before class. I will say that I had a teacher that would send out a text when class was cancelled or just send a text about things we needed for class. At first I found this to be a little odd, but then it grew on me and I liked that it was that easy to communicate. Every time he would cancel class we would get a text. It was nice because when i wake up the first thing I look at is my phone and, once i read the text i went right back to what i was doing, which was probably sleeping. I guess there is no magic in texting but maybe more teachers should consider it.

Computer...How would I live without you?
So I'm sitting here and thinking of what I could not live without, not counting the stuff like food and water and stuff those essentials. I started thinking about how i wrote about my phone and Chipotle, but really how would i live with out my computer? And better yet how about not having the internet? You never realize how much you depend on your computer until its gone getting fixed. You use it to do work, homework, and just to entertain yourself. Stereos? why bother you can just use your computer. How about watching movies? You can stream any movie you want at any time via netflix or another company and not be held back by the hours of operation of a typically video renting store. There is just so much convenience in having a computer. I dont know how I would live. Then there is also the whole internet thing. Basically I dont know what i would do if i did not have the internet. I mean think about how much we use it to check facebook, check to see what is in the dining centers, webct, and just simple things like the weather. I never watch the weather channel anymore because i just go to weather.com. Basically what I'm getting at is that we have become used to this convenience and i really dont know how people lived without it or could ever live without it if it were to go away for some reason.

my night thus far....
So AJ I had every intention of writing a blog during the day today but obviously I have failed and thus I am writing it right now and to be honest I am a little buzzed and it is kind of hard to type this right now....well at least without typos all over the place, thank God firefox squiggly lines all of my spelling errors so that way this will make sense to you. BUT this weekend is homecoming and I am trying to have as much fun as possible and get still being responsible enough to get up tomorrow at 11AM to work at the food court. I was able to do it today which was good, but tomorrow may be a little hard to do, but i won't fail them and I will be that good dedicated employee that I am and always have been for the last three years. Basically my day today consisted of getting up and going to work 11 to 3 and then going to work at the tv station 4:30 to 5 and then dustin called me to come and hang out with him. We creeped through his wanna almost be a boo's phone that he does not like anymore. Came to find that her boyfriend called dustin a "midget fuck" in a text because he jealous and intimidated by dustin. Dustin wanted me to put this in my blog because he is in the room with me at my friend Jack's apartment. Jack also wanted me to tell you that he is my new life coach. But basically I arrived at jacks after drinking at los pos and then at another friends apartment and now at jacks and then soon stix. I hope you enjoy a day in the life of Derek during homecoming weekend 2010 because well that's all I have to talk about and I have one hour until midnight so i just blogged away my day for ya. BAI

Country Music
Working at the Food Court Saturday my supervisor was playing country music and it was the first time in a long time I had been listening to country radio. I liked it and it was a nice change of pace from Hit Mix. I later told my supervisor that I liked this change and then continued to tell me that I was the only person who didn't complain to him about it. So now i'm on this big country music kick. All u haters can hate all u want. Growing up I hated country music, me and my brother both, probably because my dad used to listen to it 24/7. It was probably towards the end of high school that I finally started giving in and giving country music a try because of Travis and Sheri. Now it has grown on me. I am actually listening to it right now on the radio as I write this. There is something about it that is really calming to me and stress relieving. It just kind of picks me up when I'm down and so i've been listening to it a lot lately. It makes me think of simpler and happier times and every country song has a story to it, its not just words being sung together. Country music is not always a pick me up, because there are sad songs too, but I like them all just the same.

Almost forgot....so how bout this documentary?
So since reading my last blog entry you know that life is fuckin busy and my documentary class is really just not helping so naturally i'm behind on it, so much that i completely forgot to blog until just now. I honestly did not have a topic until just a few days ago until my best friend Julie came up with the idea of doing a story over the bookstore and its stealing problem. I literally started my project on friday and it is due tuesday. My teacher said it had to be a compelling interview with controversy and I was like...come on, we are in Charleston, there is nothing going on, idiot. The first interview ended up being a flop, but then an interview with a student staff worker just made it amazing. Every little secret or discretion with the first interview with the assistant manager failed to talk about, the student worker openly spilled the beans on. It was great and she had a lot of energy and a lot to say and loved she camera which made for good camera presence. The manager denied stealing problems and the student told me full out stories. Basically it is really making my mini documentary come together. Now the trouble is getting it all edited my tuesday which is going to be tough considering that I have to share maverick's external hard drive with him because I'm and dumbass and fried mine by plugging the wrong cord into it. Tomorrow I'm going to get me some more b-roll and hopefully edit my life away all night monday to get this done.

Honestly had nothing to write about, just things on my mind today.
wish i could have some cool topic to blog about but really, lets face it, i have no life anymore, or interests or hobbies. Everything i do is takin up by work, work, more work, and class. Don't forget about all the numerous projects I have too. I have never been so busy in my life. I truly did overload myself this year to the point that its bothering me a lot. I have virtually lost the will to get up and actually do something most mornings because I am too drained from lack of sleep. Every night i think about all the shit i have to do and then i never fall asleep and then by the time i fall asleep the new day has already started. I also think about all the things I'm missing out on and could be doing and actually enjoying my senior year. Every day is the same, i get up at 8am and end by 8pm and then push myself to do hmwk if i even bother at that point. I cant cut back on classes, cuz i need to graduate, cant cut back at the lab, cuz its a class (and I'm at the minimum anyways), cant cut back WEIU cuz I'm on scholarship, and well the foodcourt is my personal income. I just wish things would slow down, because i know I'm going to fall behind, and in certain areas i already have. I just need this semester to be done with and hope that my last one will be better than this one. I'm just overreacting and ranting cuz I'm tired and in a bitch ass mood, maybe i'll take a nap, sounds like a good plan.

Wow Stevo...Wow.
So I live in Stevenson Hall this year. It has definitely been a big transition from where I lived last year. My place is a lot nicer than I thought it would be though. Overall i guess it is better than last year. Although I feel like i live alone since my random roommate is virtually inexistent and is leaving in December, so i gotta figure out what ima do then.
Anyways, I really like having my own room and not sharing a bathroom with 50 other people. The common room is cool but its not like anyone ever comes over so it just sits and collects dust, on a positive note i never have to clean it.
Now the downfalls. We probably have at least one evacuation every two weeks. Im sorry to be a bitch, but i dont really like having my building evacuated at 6:30AM on a Sunday morning when i am supposed to sleep in after getting in at 3am and being hung over. COOL. not to mention the alarm literally scares the shit out of you and on top of that it talks to you and tells u how to evacuate the building. I actually woke up to a similar situation today except the alarm sounded different so it confused me...it inspired me to do this blog...only about 20 people evacuated and then came to find that the front desk didnt even kno what was going on. To top it off the hot water is shut off and they dont know when it is going to be turned back on, so i cleaned my shower after the repair guys kind of fixed the shower door and left dirt and shit from there shoes inside the shower...wtf great start to fall break.

So I Was Sitting Here And ...
started thinking about how addicted/attached I am to my phone and how disgusting it actually is and I honestly dont know how people functioned without them in the past.
The ongoing joke is that my phone is my kid and its not is "Sammy" for Samsung because I am always attached to it and every time I drop it I get threats from my friends that they are going to call DCFS on me haha.
But really if I go to class and I forget it in my room it almost bothers me and then I think about would if i'm missing a text or a call from someone and how would i be able to check m facebook in class without it.
Another thing is that I use my phone just to occupy my time like checking my facebook as i've said before. I also never really check my email on a computer anymore because all of them get forwarded to my phone. My fone can do a lot, if i need to look something up then all I do is google it on my phone.
I can attest that many people do this as well, but in awkward situations my phone is whipped out in the blink of an eye. Usually I'll just be rechecking my facebook, a good time for this is when i'm riding the elevator or just when people are boring me.
Another thing I know I'm not the only one guilty for, is that when I'm walking in the quad and people are sitting at tables I will take out my phone and pretend to check the voicemails I don't have. By doing this the people wont bother me out of fear of being rude.
This was a Facebook picture I was tagged by my friend Maggie on Halloween (i'm dressed as Camper Derek, but no one probably knows that). The caption below the picture on Facebook says "Derek and his phone. BFF's." on a side note i don't have that phone anymore that phone is dead and it will never be missed.
